{"id":74,"date":"2020-05-05T11:20:34","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T11:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lambofgodlcms.org\/?page_id=74"},"modified":"2020-05-21T18:05:45","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T18:05:45","slug":"devotions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lambofgodlcms.org\/?page_id=74","title":{"rendered":"Devotions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lambofgodlcms.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Ascension-of-Our-Lord-Devotions.pdf\">Ascension of Our Lord Devotion<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Receive the sign of the holy cross both upon your forehead and upon\u00a0your heart to mark you as one redeemed by Christ the crucified\u201d\u2026.\u00a0LSB Rite of Baptism page 268<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The theology of the cross \u2013 The teaching of the Bible that says, \u201cGod accomplishes His greatest&nbsp;good in the midst of suffering and when human reason is contradicted.\u201d&nbsp;This teaching can only&nbsp;be received by faith and centers in the death of Christ for sinful man:&nbsp;\u201cWhen God makes alive&nbsp;he does it by killing, when he justifies he does it by making men guilty, when he exalts to heaven&nbsp;he does it by bringing down to hell\u201d&nbsp;Luther\u2019s Works, AE, Vol 33 pg 62<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may have noticed that there are crosses in every room within our office\/classroom space at<br>Lamb of God.&nbsp;There is a reason for having all those crosses \u201changing around\u201d.&nbsp;We confess the<br>truth proclaimed by John the Baptist that Jesus of Nazareth is \u201cthe Lamb of God who takes away<br>the sin of the world<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore we teach and confess that:&nbsp;<strong>God will only deal with us through the cross.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our salvation wholly depends on the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.&nbsp;The cross and the<br>theology of the cross make many people very uncomfortable.&nbsp;In fact, many people (even some<br>Christians) actively substitute more palatable \u201ctheologies of glory\u201d.&nbsp;Doing so will always make<br>us more popular with people and acceptable within our culture, but it is not the way of salvation.&nbsp;<br>Lent is a particularly good time to remember the \u201cbitter suffering and death\u201d of the cross.<br>I pray that all of you are committed to growing in grace through the preaching of the cross during<br>the Lenten season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the Cross of Christ I glory, towering o\u2019er the wrecks of time<br>all the light of sacred story, gathers round its head sublime<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the woes of life o\u2019er take me, hopes deceive and fears annoy<br>never shall the cross forsake me;
